Oishii Sushi Apron

Made use of the Sushi patterned fabric I purchased yesterday at the craft fair to make this cute apron. I used a light brown cotton fabric I had to provide a bit of a contrast for the lining and tie.
Time to get cooking!
(Sorry for the overly girly display)

Crafting Endeavors; The Australian Craft and Quilt Fair

First let me start off by saying, old ladies look frail, but get them to a craft show and they'll fight you off and tackle you out of the way like a Quarterback Berserker!
(*Quarterback; position in American/Canadian Football [on the offensive team])
(*Berserker; Viking warrior on steroids/ancient Norse drug. Cut them and they don't feel any pain!)

Anyway it was a rather long but enjoyable day all round, it's just the fighting through the crowds that gets exhausting. I purchased a few stamps and some pretty sweet fabrics (yeah, quilting fabric is totally bad-ass). In total when I got home and added it all up, I spent around $95, which is pretty good for me considering I go nuts at a craft show with money, however a concerning fact is I'm $5 short of what I should have left over, I'm just hoping I didn't lose a stamp or something in all the hustle and bustle.

Well, moving on, I just made a quick grid in photoshop showing what I got, with a close-up of each fabric. I'm looking forward to sewing with them.

Suggestivism?

Craft Adventure Time!

Tomorrow I'll be going to the an annual craft show which is held at Melbourne Exhibition Center, I'll be hoping to pick up some great fabrics and maybe some printing/stamp supplies. Update on the event will be posted. And maybe photos...but most stalls don't like you taking photos...

Attention!

News of a pretty cool looking art competition has just fallen into my hands. If you wish to know details, post a comment! (Yes I am just doing this to see if anyone actually reads these.)
((But seriously there is a art competition for $500))

Another boring update

Time seems to keep escaping me. However I am working on a few canvases at the moment as well as school work so hope to have some more artwork uploaded soon. Also I should stop spending so much time watching YouTube videos...

Time Machine; Photomanipulation

Went on another adventure to practice some photography, this time in St Kilda. I wanted to make these photos look old so I played around on photoshop to give them texture and discolouration. I've provided a before and after of one of the photos. Still playing around with the others.

Light and Shadow, Jenna

My little dog Jenna, asleep on her bed with just a bit of sun hitting the fur on her head. Cute little thing that she is. She's 15 years old.

Getting Organised and Ideas

Ok so another day of no art, I am sorry, hopefully I'll be able to get some things uploaded when my internet isn't lagging and when I get settled into school again. I'm just trying to make sure I have all my school stuff organised and prepared so I don't fall behind. We'll see how that goes.

Anyway I think I would like to start uploading some photos of some fashions and costumes I design and make. I know that more so falls under the category of textiles, but hey, it's still art to me and it's part of what I do. So (hopefully) be prepared to see some fashion in the coming months. (usually of the more eccentric kind.)

Just another Update

Looks like this second semester of tafe will be a full on labor intensive 15 weeks. But a challenge is always good to build up skill and progress, at least that's what I plan on telling myself. First challenge, ,compiling 100 years of NMIT into a single picture...

Bee Garden, Photography

Stalked a bee in our Rosemary plant today just to try and get a photo of it. There were a few photos I got which I really liked, but I loved the side view of the bee in this one.

Photography; A walk through Kew

Some photography I took today in my cousins neighborhood in Kew. Thank you to my lovely cousin Renee for posing for me and showing me around her old paper route, before my camera battery died and it started to rain on us.

Watercolour; Work in Progress

Just thought I'd share what I'm working on. Can you tell which painting this is inspired by/based on?
(Started on it yesterday and continued it today. Adding my own interpretation to this classic)

Handy Hit

Here's a random suggestion, if your brain moves too fast for you to keep track of all your amazing art ideas, buy (or make) a note book to jot down all your ideas. And if it's an 'eco friendly' note book made out of recycled materials, it will provide you with the true snobbishness required for being a true Melbournian Artist.

(Ok so I'm just poking fun but seriously it helps, I bought a note book less than an hour ago and already I have the first page full of ideas.)

Moon Lit; Painting

"Moon Lit"
Acrylic on Black Canvas
50cm x 50cm

Originally this was going to be a more fantasy style of painting with a lush forest and faeries dancing on the lake, but the more I painted the more I had "Waltzing Matilda" stuck in my head and this is what I painted, a ghostly billabong with dead white gumtrees around it. I'm very happy with how it turned out.

Tasty Creations - Chinese Dragon Sugar Painting

I remember our teacher Geoff once said that "food can not be art." Well then, how do you explain this? (I think this is pretty damn arty for food)

Landscape, Work in Progress

It was another busy week for me. Last night was my friends wedding, which was fun, but so much stress before hand (I was her makeup artist and then emergency hairdresser) and the whole week was pretty much a massive lead up to that point. But here's a little something I painted today, It's a work in progress because I want to add a few more trees in the background an maybe a few stars.

I'm looking forward to semester two of tafe next week so I can get back to more art. I mean I love having time off, but after a while, you kinda want set tasks to do, like pretend commissions.

Update (Warning! Boring text ahead)

I've been rather neglectful of my blog again, but surprisingly enough the past few days have been busy. I don't do normal fun stuff like other people do on their holiday, but I've been working on a few projects. I spent Sunday (or was it Saturday) sewing a Kimono for my sister, gold silk with a floral print stitched in pastel pinks and greens. I still need a contrasting silk to make the collar and front paneling. I'm a little indecisive about what would look best. I've also been working on some t-shirt designs I hope to start printing using the tutorial I linked in a post at the start of last month; diy screen printing

And after that painting commission I got (which felt pretty good to get paid for art, for the first time ever!) I've been doing research on how to sell art and other arty type things. If I find anything really useful I'll make sure to link it so others can use it too. But so far I think local artist markets might be the way to go, just need to keep an eye out for them.

I've also been doing different form of research to inspire my art to get new ideas. I've been studying local street art, researching lifestyle habits from about 50 years ago, listening to new music etc. Hopefully all these things will help me produce some really good art and even help me develop/discover a new personal style.
